Tamiika Smith Office Manager About the Director Magic City Music Academy is owned and operated by Mr. Joe Jenkins. Since coming to Birmingham in 1986 he has taught hundreds of kids through his music schools, choirs and outreach programs. His early- childhood music classes (kids orchestra) were featured on the NBC Today Show as an innovative approach to teaching music to children. His choir, the Magic City Boys & Girls Choir has toured and won music awards all over the United States and abroad. The music school, Birmingham’s largest, has over 100 students enrolled. The entire academy along with its various divisions and outreach programs serves over 500 students each week. Mr. Jenkins has been the recipient of numerous awards including the NAACP Outstanding African American Award, the United Negro College Fund Arts & Culture Pioneer Award,  the Links’ Living Legend Award, the Childcare Resources’ Children’s Advocate Award, Professor Carlton Reese Music & Humanitarian Legacy Award, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Life Enhancement Award. Mr. Jenkins is married to Lynn McCreary Jenkins and has 4 children.
